About Ashington

Ashington Association Football Club are based in Ashington, Northumberland. Nicknamed the Colliers, they were formed in 1883 and were a founding member of Football League Third Division North in 1921 — the northernmost club ever to play in the Football League.

They compete in the Northern Premier League East for the 2026/27 season, having earned promotion via the 2022–23 Northern League inter-step play-offs. In 2025–26 they finished 14th of 22 in the division.

The club left historic Portland Park in 2008 and now play at Woodhorn Lane, their home since August 2008.

Ashington moved to Station Road in 1909, renamed Portland Park in 1914, and played there through their Football League years. Record attendance at Portland Park was 13,199 for an FA Cup second round tie against Rochdale in December 1950.

The final match at Portland Park was in February 2008. Woodhorn Lane opened on 30 August 2008 with a 2–1 FA Cup preliminary round win over Ossett Albion. Record attendance at Woodhorn Lane is 1,488 (Boxing Day 2025 vs Blyth Spartans).
