About Bury

Bury Football Club were founded in 1885 and are one of English football's historic names, known as the Shakers. They won the FA Cup in 1900 and 1903 and played in the Football League from 1894 until expulsion in August 2019 amid financial collapse.

Supporters' group Est.1885 purchased Gigg Lane in 2022 and merged with the phoenix club Bury AFC in 2023. Competitive men's football returned to the ground on 29 July 2023. Having won the NPL Division One West title in 2025–26, Bury return to step 3 for 2026–27.

Gigg Lane was built for Bury in 1885 and hosted its first match on 12 September 1885. It is among the world's oldest professional football grounds. Following the Taylor Report, the stadium was rebuilt as an all-seater venue with four covered stands; capacity was 11,840 when last used in 2019.

The ground lay largely dormant between May 2019 and July 2023. Record attendance is 35,000 for an FA Cup tie in 1960. The stadium has also hosted Swinton RLFC and FC United of Manchester.
