About Cambridge City

Cambridge City Football Club are based in Sawston, Cambridgeshire. Founded in 1908 as Cambridge Town, they changed their name in 1951 when Cambridge was granted city status and are nicknamed The Lilywhites.

They compete in the Isthmian League North for the 2026/27 season. In 2025–26 they finished 12th of 22 in the division.

After leaving the City Ground at Milton Road in 2013 and groundsharing at Histon and St Ives Town, the club opened the 3,000-capacity FWD-IP Community Stadium in Sawston in November 2024.

Stadium History & Features

Cambridge City turned professional in 1958, won the Southern League title in 1962–63, and reached the Conference South in the 2000s. Supporters took over the club via a trust after the City Ground was sold.

Club president Len Satchell purchased a 35-acre site in Sawston in 2012. Construction began in January 2021 and the new stadium opened in 2024 with a 500-seat main stand, covered terracing and no segregation.

Getting to FWD-IP Community Stadium

By Car

From Junction 10 of the M11 take the A505 eastbound. At the second roundabout (McDonald's and BP) turn left on the A1301 signposted Cambridge and The Shelfords. Continue past Sawston on the A1301 to traffic lights, turn right into the village, then left into Babraham Road. Grove Road is the sixth road on the left — look for the CCFC badge on a signpost.

Ample free parking is on site. Use the car park immediately to your right on entering the ground, before the stadium. Overflow parking may be at Ashwell Point on Grove Road.

By Bus

From central Cambridge, take the Number 7 bus from Drummer Street. The closest stop is Babraham Road and Churchfield Avenue. Walk east on Babraham Road to Grove Road, then follow Grove Road to West Way.

Travel Tip

Cambridge City encourage car sharing, cycling or public transport on busy matchdays. Respect neighbours and avoid parking on surrounding roads or driveways.
