Last updated: 6 February 2026|Effective date: 6 February 2026

Follow Away ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mobile application that helps football fans find their team and plan journeys to away games. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It is designed to meet the requirements of the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

By using Follow Away, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: When you register or sign in (including anonymous sign-in), we collect: Email address (when you create an account or sign in with email), Display name (optional), Account type and subscription status (e.g. free, premium)
  • Profile and preferences: Home postcode (for distance and journey calculations), Selected football team(s), Nearest or preferred train station, Notification preferences (e.g. match reminders, check-in reminders, weather alerts)
  • Check-in data: When you mark that you are attending or check in to a fixture, we store your user ID, the fixture details, and check-in time. We do not store precise location coordinates unless you use a location-based check-in feature, in which case we may use your device location only to verify proximity at the time of check-in.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device and app usage: We may collect device type, operating system, app version, and general usage data to operate the app and fix issues.
  • Push notification token: To send you push notifications (e.g. match reminders), we store a push token (FCM on Android, APNs on iOS) associated with your account. This is necessary to deliver notifications you have opted into.

1.3 Location Information

  • Postcode: You may provide your home postcode. We use it to calculate distances and travel options to venues. We do not use it to track your real-time location.
  • Device location: The app may request location permission for features such as: Showing your position on a map when planning travel, Location-based check-in at a venue (if applicable). Location is used only when the app is in use (and, if you have granted it, in the background only where required for a feature). We do not continuously track your location. You can revoke location permission in your device settings at any time.

1.4 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not sell your personal data. We do not collect sensitive categories of data (such as health, race, religion, or political views) unless you voluntarily provide something in a free-text field.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the app: Show fixtures, teams, venues, travel options, and distance/journey information based on your postcode and preferences.
  • Manage your account: Create and maintain your profile, sync your postcode and team selection across devices when signed in, and manage subscriptions.
  • Send notifications: Send you local and push notifications you have opted into (e.g. match reminders, check-in reminders, weather).
  • Improve the app: Understand usage and fix bugs; we do not use your data for advertising profiling.
  • Comply with law: Where required by law or to protect our rights and users' safety.

3. Legal Basis (where applicable)

  • Contract: Processing necessary to provide the app and your account (e.g. profile, subscriptions, check-ins).
  • Consent: Where we ask for consent (e.g. push notifications, location for specific features). You can withdraw consent in app or device settings.
  • Legitimate interests: Improving the app, security, and analytics in a minimal way that does not override your privacy.
